IZOD Pendulum Impact Tester | Pendulum Impact Testing Machine Manufacturer
IZOD Impact Testing Machine is also referred to as the IZOD pendulum impact tester used to simulate the single impact on a variety of materials by a pendulum from a defined height at a given speed to determine the impact toughness.
It is widely applicable to plastic, reinforced nylon, ceramic, insulating materials and other non-metallic materials.
The ability of materials to absorb energy is one essential index to measure impact resistance, directly affecting the lifespan of finished products. The energy absorption is directly proportionate to flexibility. That is the reason why plastic has a stronger capacity to digest energy and withstand bigger deformation. Resistance to impact energy also varies depending on the test temperatures. The value is less in lower temperature than that in higher temperature.
Specimens are divided into notched specimens and unnotched specimens. The notched sample is generally intended to evaluate impact energy and notch sensitivity. The energy absorbed by the test piece is captured and calculated after the pendulum hits the target from the prescribed height and at a specified elevation angle, providing data support for the test result.
Pendulum impact testing machine is the most common equipment used by research & development institutes, universities & colleges, manufactures of non-metallic materials.

IZOD Pendulum Impact Tester Features
- The device owns a high-precision intelligent controller and is equipped with an LCD touch screen.
- No vibration in the pendulum impact during the test. The high-strength carbon fiber pendulum rod is employed to improve the rigidity of the pendulum, conducive to concentrating the energy on the center of mass of the pendulum.
- A high-resolution digital encoder is used to ensure angle measuring accuracy is higher and more stable.
- The impact hammer and high-quality ball bearings in line with the aerodynamic principle significantly reduce the friction loss caused by the machine.
- Automatically calculates the final result, and the machine can save 24 sets of data.
- Users can select the English operation interface at will, and the test results can be replaceable in units such as J/m, KJ/㎡, kg-cm/cm, ft-ib/in, etc.
- Configured with a built-in micro printer to print test data directly.
IZOD Impact Test Procedure
- Check all parts in place and measure the thicknesses, widths and notching sizes of test pieces to ensure they are in conformance with relevant specifications.
- Check that the IZOD pendulum impact tester can run under standard conditions and the velocity and absorbed energy are normal.
- Elevate the pendulum arm to the specified height and fasten it, and have the test piece secured in the clamp through a vice clamping screw (the notch shall be oriented on the side that is to be hit by the striking edge of the pendulum).
- Set all necessary parameters and press “Start” to Let the pendulum fall. Impact energy absorbed is recorded automatically.
- Repeat the above steps on other test pieces.
- Print out the test result after each set of specimens are measured.
