Dupont Impact Tester

Dupont Impact Tester is mainly used to determine the resistance of paint, plastic sheets, films or other related materials to cracking or peeling from a substrate when it is subjected to a deformation caused by a falling weight dropped under specified conditions.

The dopont impact testing machine consists of a vertical tube to guide a cylindrical weight that is dropped on a punch resting on the test panel. Different falling weights, including 300 g, 500 g, 1000 g and 2000 g, can be selected according to the specific testing requirements.

The coating under test is applied to a thin metal panel. After the coating is cured, a specified weight is dropped onto the panel from a prescribed height which will cause deformation of the coating and the substrate. The point at which failure occurs can be evaluated by gradually elevating the height from which the weight drops. Films generally fail by cracking, which is made more visible by the use of a magnifier.
